Vermont Governor Phil Scott has appointed 12 Commissioners to his newly formed Commission on the Future of Vermont Agriculture. We at DRM congratulate the newly appointed Commissioners, many of whom have names familiar to us.
Governor Scott established the Commission via Executive Order No. 03-21 in February, 2021. The Commission will be co-chaired by Secretary Anson Tebbetts of the Agency of Agriculture, Food and Markets (“AAFM”) and Secretary Lindsay Kurrle of the Agency of Commerce and Community Development. In establishing the Commission, Governor Scott acknowledged the importance of agriculture, food and beverage businesses in Vermont, which, as noted in the Executive Order, account for $11.3 billion in economic output for Vermont each year, and employ at least 64,000 individuals.
The Commission is tasked with looking at methods to sustain and grow economic development in the agriculture, food and beverage sectors, bringing together farmers, State leaders, producers, distributors and others to make coalitions to support these important sectors of our economy. The Commission will provide an action plan to the Governor on or before November 15, 2021, and then will work to implement the plan over the next few years.
