As part of its strategic plan, over the course of the next three years (through 2026) Downs Rachlin Martin plans to provide support to programs and projects that tackle the critical housing shortage throughout Vermont and the Upper Valley in New Hampshire. As part of this commitment, DRM will contribute both financially and through volunteer efforts to a range of affordable housing initiatives.

The firm has formed strategic partnerships with local Habitat for Humanity chapters in Vermont and New Hampshire. The first opportunity for employee involvement was in Chittenden County, Vermont on September 24th–-a team home-build in Winooski for Green Mountain Habitat for Humanity.

Team Builds allow up to 10 people to participate on a construction site and help the crew build an actual Habitat home for a family in need.

The weather was fine for outside construction work. Employees Josh Leckey, John Maitland, Marc Heath, Naomi Mather, Amanda Dulude, Justin Kunz, Monique Trono, and Tina Rabideau showed up for a day of giving back to our community. DRM’s Team Build was a clear success, as our dedicated team members helped build affordable housing for Vermonters in need.

Managing Partner Will Dodge notes, “Great work everyone! This is a first step of a three-year effort by DRM to contribute meaningfully to Vermont’s housing crisis. Looks like we’re making progress!”

Amanda Dulude, a Legal Administrative Assistant in the Burlington office, took a moment to reflect on her involvement:

“Volunteering with Green Mountain Habitat for Humanity was an incredibly rewarding experience with DRM. Team collaboration was fun with my fellow coworkers – we were supportive and motivated each other throughout the build. As a volunteer, I had the chance to help build an affordable home.

Despite having little prior construction experience, the on-site project manager was patient and taught us essential skills. Personally, I learned how to use a circular saw and an air nail gun! It pushed me out of my comfort zone and allowed me to develop new skills and a deeper appreciation for community service. Volunteering with GMHFH gave me a direct view of the efforts by GMHFH – families gaining stability and neighborhoods being revitalized. I would volunteer again with GMHFH and thanks to DRM for providing this rewarding experience!”
