Bob Luce is chairman of the firm’s Litigation Group. He has extensive experience managing and trying complex commercial litigation matters and has successfully represented brain and spinal cord injury victims and their families in Vermont for more than 15 years. He regularly tries cases to verdict in state and federal courts and is experienced in mediation and arbitration.
Significant Matters
Bob has successfully represented businesses in significant litigation matters throughout the Northeast. He has achieved several recoveries of over a million dollars in personal injury cases. Bob was recently successful in establishing that federal preemption exempts railroads in Vermont from complying with Act 250 zoning laws. Bob won an appeal to the 2nd Circuit Court of Appeals, which issued a strong opinion on preemption that has been followed by other courts.
Professional Activities
Bob serves on the board and is coordinator of legal affairs for the Brain Injury Association of Vermont. He is a member of the Traumatic Brain Injury Group of the American Association for Justice (formerly called The Association of Trial Lawyers of America).
In 2009, Bob was selected as a Fellow of the Litigation Counsel of America. LCA is a highly selective, invitation-only trial lawyer honor society that recognizes superior ethical reputation as well as effectiveness and accomplishment in litigation, both at the trial and appellate levels. The organization’s membership represents less than one-half of one percent of American lawyers.
Bob received the AV® Preeminent™ Peer Review Rating from Martindale-Hubbell, the highest rating possible from one of the oldest and most prestigious lawyer-ranking organizations. He is listed in The Best Lawyers in America 2010 and is recognized in the International Investor, Benchmark: Litigation guide as one of the preeminent litigation practitioners in the country. Bob was recently ranked among the top five percent of attorneys in Vermont by Super Lawyers® magazine. The listed attorneys were identified by their peers and through the independent research of Law & Politics® magazine.
