Downs Rachlin Martin PLLC (DRM) is proud to announce that Timothy C. Doherty, Jr. has been appointed to the Vermont Superior Court by Governor Phil Scott. Doherty will be sworn in in the coming weeks.
Public trust is at the core of the judiciary. Without judges who earn that trust, courts cannot fulfill their vital functions in adjudicating disputes and protecting the public. In that vein, DRM is extremely honored to learn that Timothy Doherty, a partner in DRM’s Government Enforcement and White Collar Defense Group, has been nominated by Governor Phil Scott as a Superior Court Judge for the Northwest area of the North Region, covering Chittenden, Franklin, Grand Isle, Lamoille, and Washington counties.
Since joining DRM in 2017, Tim has successfully litigated commercial and white collar crime cases, proving himself as among the very best courtroom lawyers in the state. Prior to coming to DRM, Tim served for a decade as an Assistant U.S. Attorney in the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Vermont, where he prosecuted business crimes, including complicated mail, wire, and bank fraud matters, trying multi-jurisdictional firearm and drug trafficking cases, and working through a myriad of cases involving state and federal agencies. Tim was elected in 2023 to the Burlington City Council representing the East District, where he brought thoughtful, practical judgment, persuasive arguments, and adroit decision-making to tackle pronounced social challenges in the Queen City.
“We at DRM will greatly miss Tim’s spirit, common sense, and spirited conversations in the office; however, we know Tim brings to the bench his very best qualities, all to reinforce the vital public trust at the core of the court’s mission”, said Will Dodge, DRM’s Managing Partner. “All of us at DRM extend our congratulations to Tim on his nomination, and express our thanks for all he has done to exemplify DRM’s core values: dedication to excellence, commitment to collaboration, and devotion to strengthening those communities in which we work and live.”
