Three DRM Attorneys Recognized as Lawyers of the Year by Best Lawyers
(Montpelier, Vt.) Attorneys Johan W.E. Maitland, Wilhelmina Dingemans Miller and Peter D. Van Oot have been named Lawyers of the Year for 2015 by Best Lawyers in America. The three attorneys were recognized by the peer-review organization, which derives its rankings from a survey of leading lawyers about the professional abilities of their colleagues within geographical and legal practice areas. Maitland was recognized in the Burlington, Vt., market. Dingemans Miller and Van Oot practice primarily from the firm’s Lebanon office and were recognized in the Concord, N.H. area market.
Willemien Dingemans Miller, recognized in the trusts and estates practice area, leads clients with diverse and intricate family and financial situations through the trust and estate planning process. She counsels clients regarding asset management, tax, and distribution goals resulting in the formulation and implementation of a comprehensive estate plan. She also guides families through the often emotional process of administering the estate and trust of a deceased family member. Dingemans Miller is a fellow of the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel, where she formerly served as Vermont state chair. She currently is a member of the Vermont Community Foundation and previously served on boards and committees of various community and professional organizations.
John Maitland was recognized in the employment law – management practice area where he regularly applies his legal and practical considerations to issues involving both the non-unionized and unionized labor-force, counsels employers in labor management situations and works to develop effective solutions across all matters in employment law. He currently serves on the boards of directors of the Greater Burlington YMCA and the Visiting Nurses Association of Chittenden and Grand Isle Counties. He has previously served as chair of the board of the United Way of Chittenden County.
Pete Van Oot, recognized in the environmental law practice area, serves as lead counsel on significant development projects, negotiates environmental law solutions at the state and national levels, and advises commercial clients, utilities and institutions on key policy issues, permits, and transactions requiring critical knowledge of corporate, environmental and real estate law. He is a charter fellow of the American College of Environmental Attorneys, has chaired the last two Judicial Nominating Commissions which vets candidates to replace retiring judges on Vermont’s U.S. District Court, has served on and/or chaired numerous state-wide environmental organizations including The Vermont Land Trust and The Nature Conservancy-VT boards, and has been appointed to several environmental and brownfields committees and task forces going back to the administration of Gov. Howard B. Dean (1991-2003).
