VT Public Service Commissioner Addresses Business Leaders

April 02, 2009

David O’Brien, commissioner of Vermont’s Department of Public Service, shared his views on a variety of topics including the relicensing of Vermont Yankee and the current stalemate between VY and the Vermont legislature, the importance of broadband and wireless connectivity and cell coverage to Vermont’s future, Smart Grid opportunities, green growth zones and the state’s approach to stimulus spending at DRM’s third leadership forum held March 23 at the firm’s Burlington office.

O’Brien was named DPS commissioner by Gov. Jim Douglas in January 2003. As commissioner, he is responsible for regulation of the electric, natural gas, telecommunications and water industries in Vermont. A resident of Stowe, O’Brien previously served as executive director of the Rutland Economic Development Corporation.

Sen. Susan Bartlett (D – Lamoille), who chairs the Senate Appropriations Committee, is the featured guest at the next DRM Leadership Forum to be held Monday, April 20, 8:00 - 9:30 a.m. in Burlington. DRM clients and legal professionals are invited to take advantage of these opportunities to engage in conversation with Vermont’s top leaders. A light breakfast will be provided.
