(St. Johnsbury) LeNora R. Nugent of St. Johnsbury has been awarded the Diane R. Lynch Distinguished Service Award at Downs Rachlin Martin PLLC. The award is given annually to an employee who has demonstrated the loyalty, dedication, energy, drive, selflessness, good nature, humor and commitment that former human resources manager Diane Lynch exemplified in her years with the firm.
“As a supervisor, Diane showed that to be a better employee and leader you should be available and willing to listen to others, realize the value of each person’s job and be willing to do the work necessary to get a job done,” Nugent said of the award’s namesake, who succumbed to cancer at an early age. “She mentored me to take on more responsibility and taught me how to deal with different situations and people.”
A native of North Stratford, N.H., Nugent was the valedictorian of her graduating class at Stratford High School and earned an associates degree in legal secretarial science at Pierce College for Women in Concord in 1972. She came to DRM in 1972, worked briefly at Lyndon State College beginning in 1974, and returned for good in 1976. Working all of her career in St. Johnsbury, her attorney assignments have included founding partner Allen Martin and former Managing Partner and CEO John H. Marshall. She is a leader of a clerical support staff that regularly produces up to 20 complex legal filings per month for the firm’s highly-regarded Energy and Telecommunications Practice Group. Nugent and husband, Edward, are the parents of two grown children, Ben Nugent of Lewiston, Maine and Sarah Nugent of Thetford Center.
Diane Lynch joined the firm in 1974 as a secretary, and worked for more than 20 years in the firm’s St. Johnsbury Office. She was named office manager in 1976 and personnel and administrative manager in 1983. She passed away on November 29, 2000, shortly before the first Diane R. Lynch Distinguished Service Award was presented.
