DRM Fund Grant Sponsors Burlington Latino Festival Activities for Kids

October 09, 2009

(Burlington) Downs Rachlin Martin PLLC, through its DRM Community Fund, was the sponsor of the children’s activities at the 15th Annual Burlington Latino Festival, which took place the second weekend in September.

“We are very pleased that the DRM Community Fund grant committee awarded a $1,000 grant to support this day-long event that was both fun and educational for the children,” said William J. Dodge, a DRM director and sponsor of the Community Fund grant.  “It was a big success!”

His wife, Leonora Dodge, was one of the coordinators of the children’s events.

The DRM Community Fund was launched in 2000 to celebrate the firm's 50th anniversary. Since then, DRM has awarded more than $180,000 in small grants to approximately 180 private, non-profit organizations in Vermont and western New Hampshire to support innovative, grass-roots arts, education, economic development and historic preservation projects that strengthen community.

“About 100 people participated,” Dodge reported. “The main activity was a scavenger hunt, which involved learning Spanish words and finding out about the musical instruments, dolls, food and locations of all of the Spanish-speaking countries in the world. Nearly all stayed until the very end - no one wants to miss breaking the piñatas!”

Other recent recipients of $1,000 DRM Community Fund grants include the Montpelier Chamber Orchestra Society, Chittenden South Supervisory Union Buccaneers Youth Football program and the Chesterfield Public School Foundation. A community fund grant also supplies food for meals cooked and served by DRM employees at the Salvation Army Food Kitchen.
