Caryn Waxman and Amber Barber Named Co-Chairs of DRM Family Law Group

December 16, 2008

(Burlington, VT)  Attorneys Caryn E. Waxman and Amber L. Barber have been named co-chairs of the DRM Family Law Group, and attorney Jodi J. LaMarche has returned to the group as an associate after serving as a law clerk during the spring semester.  The changes within the DRM Family Law Group were announced recently by Downs Rachlin Martin PLLC Deputy Managing Partner Paul H. Ode, Jr.

The appointment of Waxman and Barber will mean a change in overall responsibility for the management of the DRM Family Law Group as attorney Debra Schoenberg has relocated to a new practice in California.  As co-chairs, Waxman and Barber will manage the client intake process, litigation, work allocation and prioritization, monitoring of case status and supervision of group personnel, among other management responsibilities.

Waxman joined DRM in 2004 when the former Schoenberg & Associates originally combined with DRM.  She has concentrated in all aspects of family law matters for the past 12 years.  She has extensive experience with complex matrimonial actions involving high asset and high conflict divorce clients.  An experienced litigator, she focuses her work on reducing conflict and creating long-term sustainable solutions in what often appear to be insurmountable circumstances.  She is a frequent lecturer on all aspects of family law, including complex litigation.  She is a graduate of George Washington University and Vermont Law School and holds a Certificate in Mediation from Woodbury College.

Barber also joined the firm during the 2004 combination.  She has extensive family law litigation and negotiation experience having concentrated in that area for the past 12 years.  She handles all aspects of divorce and civil union dissolution, including complex financial issues, extensive marital assets, post-judgment modifications and court order enforcement issues.  Common issues include business valuations, pension and retirement plans, stock portfolios and real property. Barber has been very active in the Vermont Bar Association, where she serves on the board of managers, and is a past chair of the VBA’s Family Law Section. She is a frequent lecturer on all aspects of family law, including complex litigation.  She holds a bachelor’s degree from St. Lawrence University and graduated from the Albany Law School of Union University in 1996.  She also holds a Certificate in Mediation from Woodbury College.

LaMarche worked with the group as a law clerk while a student at the Franklin Pierce Law Center, where she was awarded her juris doctor degree in May.  At DRM, “Jodi impressed us with the quality of work she produced,” according to Waxman, “and we are thrilled to have her back with us as an associate.”  She completed her undergraduate studies at St. Lawrence University in 2004, where she was admitted to Phi Beta Kappa, the National Dean’s List and the Omicron Delta Epsilon international economic honor society. LaMarche will work in DRM’s Burlington Office.

The DRM Family Law Group now includes six attorneys and two paralegals with extensive experience in all aspects of family law, including pre- and post-nuptial agreements, divorce and civil union dissolutions, complex litigation and negotiation, child custody, child support, post judgment modifications and enforcement of court orders, guardianship petitions, adoption, step-parent and second-parent adoptions, and post-divorce qualified domestic relations orders.

With more than 85 attorneys and legal professionals in seven offices in Vermont, New Hampshire and New York, DRM provides legal services to local, national and international clients in practice areas that also include litigation, business law, labor and employment, captive insurance, environmental law, trust and estates, family law, tax law, public utilities, real estate, health care, creditors rights, venture capital and insurance defense.  The firm represents clients in legislative, regulatory and public affairs through the Government and Public Affairs group. DRM is the law firm member for Vermont of Lex Mundi, the world's leading association of independent law firms.
