Vermont Senator Susan Bartlett (D-Lamoille), chair of the powerful Senate Appropriations Committee, was the featured guest at the DRM Leadership Forum held April 20 in Burlington. The long-time senator confirmed her intention to run for governor in 2010, in addition to sharing her views on a wide range of current issues.
The appropriate role of government, the obligation to be accountable for dollars spent and the legislature’s constitutional responsibility for appropriating federal funds and grants were among the topics Bartlett discussed. She also addressed business development in Vermont and the philosophical differences in the House and Senate approaches to raising revenues. Business leaders, as well as attorneys and others attending from DRM, asked questions and expressed their concerns and perspectives following the senator’s opening remarks.
A resident of Hyde Park, Bartlett has been a member of the Senate since 1992. In addition to the Appropriations Committee, she is a member of the Senate Agriculture Committee and the joint Corrections Oversight and Transportation Oversight Committees.
House Minority Leader Patti Komline (R-Dorset) and Assistant Minority Leader Pat McDonald (R-Barre/Berlin) will be featured guests at the next DRM Leadership Forum on Monday, May 18, 8:00 – 9:30 a.m. in Burlington. DRM attorneys are encouraged to invite clients to take advantage of these opportunities to engage in conversation with Vermont’s legislative leaders. A light breakfast will be provided.
