Alison Alifano Joins DRM as Manager of Library and Research Services

(Burlington, VT)  Alison F. Alifano of New York City has been hired as manager of library and research services at the northern New England law firm of Downs Rachlin Martin PLLC.

She succeeds former Library Services Director Wynne W. Browne of Peacham, who retired on Dec. 30.  The changes were announced by DRM Managing Partner Paul H. Ode, Jr.

“The library services function at a law firm is critical to our work,” Ode said.  “Recent changes in information management have transformed the industry, and we are very fortunate to find somebody with the depth of experience that Alison brings to this position.”

Alifano comes to DRM after 13 years in the New York office of the international law firm Sullivan & Cromwell LLP,  which is comprised of more than 800 attorneys in 13 offices worldwide. At that firm she served as an associate director of information resources.  Among administrative duties she managed up to 20 library personnel in four offices,  negotiated contracts for print and on-line resources and oversaw the budget.  She held leadership positions in contingency planning, technical services, research training, knowledge management, legal compliance and web site content.  Before that, Alifano performed similar duties for the New York County Lawyers’ Association and Hughes Hubbard and Reed LLP, appointments totalling more than 12 years.

Alifano graduated from Dowling College in Oakdale, N.Y., attended Adelphi University and earned a master of library science degree at Long Island University’s Palmer School of Library and Information Science.  She is active in library trade associations, including the American Association of Law Libraries and the Law Library Association of Greater New York.

Browne joined DRM in 1983.  In addition to her work overseeing library services, she also supervised all records management and conflict checks, maintained print and electronic information services for all of DRM’s offices and researched complicated legal and technical questions for the firm’s legal staff.  In 2009 she was selected for DRM’s Diane Lynch Distinguished Service Award, given each year to one highly valued DRM employee.
