John Marshall Named 2011 Best Lawyers Montpelier-area Environmental Lawyer of the Year

March 12, 2011

John Marshall, chair - Energy & Telecommunications, Best Lawyers Montpelier Area Environmental Lawyer of the Year (Montpelier, Vt.) John H. Marshall, a director with the law firm Downs Rachlin Martin PLLC, has been named Best Lawyers Montpelier Area Environmental Lawyer of the Year for 2011. According to the 25-year-old lawyer-rating organization, Marshall’s selection for this distinction reflects the particularly high ratings he received for his abilities, professionalism and integrity in Best Lawyers annual peer-review survey. Best Lawyers’ Montpelier area includes St. Johnsbury.

Based in DRM’s St. Johnsbury office, Marshall has regularly represented clients in Montpelier before the Vermont Public Service Board in a variety of energy, telecommunications and environmental matters, including extensive environmental siting work, for three decades. He served as chair of the Vermont Bar Association Environmental Law Committee for six years, and he served as chair of the Northeast Kingdom’s District Environmental Commission, which included serving on the Central Vermont District Environmental Commission when members had conflicts. Marshall also served as DRM’s managing partner and chief executive officer for seven years.

“We continue to believe – as we have believed for more than 25 years – that recognition by one’s peers is the most meaningful form of praise in the legal profession,” said Steven Naifeh, managing editor of Best Lawyers. “We would like to congratulate John Marshall on being selected [by his peers] as the ‘Montpelier Area Environmental Lawyer of the Year’ for 2010.”
