Practice Focus
As an associate in DRM’s Business Law Group, William L. (Trey) Martin assists in the representation of local, national and international businesses in a wide range of commercial transactions, with a focus on investment and finance transactions, energy law, land use and environmental law.
Since joining DRM, Trey has assisted with a wind turbine company’s asset-purchase of intellectual property rights, drafted articles of incorporation for a company dedicated to supporting “green” building and assisted with purchase and sale transactions of business assets, including real property and intellectual property. In addition, Trey has assumed a lead role in handling the business transactions related to software development and data licensing for a company specializing in online retail sales.
As a member of DRM’s cross-practice ARRA-Stimulus team, Trey monitored and interpreted federal and state developments related to the American Reinvestment and Recovery Act. He focused on the provisions that sought to encourage the formation of new businesses and strengthen existing companies through loans, grants and other financing.
Professional Activities
As a law student, Trey was a summer associate at an international law firm employing more than 400 attorneys. Based in the firm’s Cincinnati office, he gained experience in the areas of business litigation, corporate finance and environmental law. In addition, he spent a full-time semester-in-practice with the Environmental Protection Division of the Vermont Attorney General’s office, helping to prepare for litigation and appeals and assisting lobbying efforts.
At Vermont Law School, Trey was editor-in-chief of the Vermont Law Review, and he served on the Moot Court Appellate Board for the Jessup Competition Team in International Law. He also was selected for the Trial Advocacy Moot Court Competition Team.
