Practice Focus
Justin W. McCabe brings an advanced degree in engineering, plus four years of experience in business and operations management and two years consulting in the petrochemical industry, to his practice as a patent attorney with the firm’s Intellectual Property Practice Group. His studies in Case Western Reserve’s Master’s degree program included product development and design as well as electrochemical engineering and fracture mechanics.
While in law school, Justin clerked in law offices in Lebanon, N.H., the Office of the Federal Public Defender in Burlington, Vt., and in Barre, Vt., assisting a state public defender. In that position, he argued the case of Ritter v. State, evaluating the constitutionality of Vermont’s DNA Database Statute, before the Vermont Supreme Court.
Professional Activities
At Vermont Law School, Justin was a Moot Court team member, and he received an Academic Excellence Award for earning the highest grades in eight subject areas.
Community Involvement
Justin is the lead of the Property Assessed Clean Energy (PACE) Team, which is working to implement state legislation that would allow the city of Montpelier to finance renewable energy and energy efficiency projects on private property, including residential, commercial and industrial properties. The programs eliminate the chief barrier to clean energy installations: the large upfront cost.
Justin is the Lower Elm neighborhood leader for Montpelier CAN!, an association that serves as a conduit between the city of Montpelier and the city's twelve neighborhoods. The association works to create community, to provide an emergency-response network and to coordinate services and opportunities that improve the quality of life in the city.
