Practice Focus


Nancy Malmquist has extensive experience in the public utility, commercial transactions and corporate law fields in Vermont and throughout the Northeast. She practices regularly before the Vermont Public Service Board and other state commissions in the Northeast in a wide range of matters involving significant policy and complex transactions. 

She represents companies in debt and equity financings; merger, acquisition and joint venture transactions; tax-exempt bond financings; and other matters of general corporate, partnership and limited liability company governance.

Nancy also is the vice chair of DRM’s Energy & Telecommunications Group.

Significant Matters


Nancy appeared before the Vermont Public Service Board to obtain approval of the  acquisition of Verizon’s Vermont exchanges by FairPoint and the sale of the Vermont Yankee Nuclear Power Station, the sale of the hydroelectric generation facilities located along the Connecticut River and the acquisition of a national transmission provider. She has counseled and represented national and international telecommunications providers as well as electric generation and transmission companies in major matters involving acquisitions, mergers, financing, facilities siting and policy development.

Professional Activities


Before joining DRM, Nancy was Special Counsel at the Vermont Department of Public Service, where she was responsible for litigation before the Public Service Board and regulatory and policy matters involving the telecommunications, cable television and electric utility industries. Previously, Nancy practiced corporate and securities law at Ropes & Gray in Boston, Mass., and Washington, D.C.

Community Involvement


Nancy is co-chair of the Parent Annual Fund of The Holderness School in Plymouth, N.H.
