Practice Focus
Elizabeth Wohl focuses her practice in commercial litigation and health care law. She has negotiated and assisted in negotiating settlements for individuals, small businesses and large companies. She has done significant pre-trial litigation in patent infringement and invalidity cases, and she has drafted successful summary judgment motions on behalf of clients with environmental matters. In addition, Elizabeth dedicates significant pro bono time to assisting refugees seeking political asylum.
Significant Matters
Elizabeth has taken the lead on a variety of litigation matters including:.
- obtaining a successful settlement in a small claims court action enabling a small business to collect money owed
- defending a financial institution in a small claims action brought by a neighbor
- representing a car dealer in a breach of warranty of title claim and successfully negotiating a settlement
- routinely responding to subpoenas for medical records
She has assisted in:
- conducting invalidity research to develop a strategy on behalf of a performance equipment designer and manufacturer in a trademark infringement suit
- obtaining a Federal Court injunction to stop a state’s actions against a client and drafting a successful summary judgment motion winning all attorneys fees
- representing a Chinese corporation seeking damages for breach of contract against a local business
- obtaining insurance payment for litigation defense costs related to an employment action
- preparing and responding to discovery in a complex patent litigation case
- conducting post-summary judgment motion practice to recover attorneys fees in complex environmental matter
Professional Activities
Elizabeth came to DRM after serving two year-long legal clerkships, first to the Honorable William F. Downes in the United States District Court for the District of Wyoming and later to Vermont Supreme Court Justice Marilyn S. Skoglund. During law school, she interned with the Vermont Supreme Court, the District Court for the Fifth Judicial District’s Honorable Hunter Patrick in Cody, Wyo., and with a law firm in Brattleboro. As an undergraduate, she second-chaired her first trial while interning in the County Attorney’s Office in Sheridan, Wyo.
Elizabeth graduated magna cum laude from Vermont Law School, where she served as an editor of Vermont Law Review and as a teaching assistant for Professor Tracy Bach’s courses in legal writing and appellate advocacy. Her paper on comparative law and religious freedom won the 2005 Vermont Law Review Ballenger-Green Paper Competition.
Community Involvement
Elizabeth serves on the board of trustees of Brooks Memorial Library in Brattleboro. She is active in the Brattleboro Area Jewish Community, Shir HeHarim, and is a class agent for her Williams-Mystic Maritime Studies Class, Fall 1997.
