Karen Davis was named information technology director at DRM in 2006. As director, she oversees a staff of five full time professionals managing all of the firm’s information systems, telecommunications, data storage, intranet and extranet systems, knowledge management and electronic infrastructure.
Her knowledge of and comfort within the legal profession is drawn from more than seven years of experience as a network administrator for another Burlington area law firm before she joined DRM in 2001. She and the IT team stay ahead of the rapidly evolving information industry through frequent training and participation in professional IT groups. DRM’s IT staff provides 24-hour help desk support for users as well as training and support of commercial software, law firm-specific applications and custom software.
The firm’s metro area network links five offices via a 10 megabyte SONET ring, with connectivity for two other offices over the firm’s virtual private network. Attached to the network are 150 workstations, 25 servers and a ‘fleet’ of laptops. The firm provides separate, secure wireless internet access for visiting clients in each office.
