Practice Focus
Harriet King focuses her practice on matrimonial law litigation, including relief from abuse hearings; complex custody, divorce and child support/maintenance cases; juvenile law; and criminal defense arising out of domestic matters. Harriet works closely with her clients to insure that they receive the best possible representation.
Professional Activities
Before joining the DRM Schoenberg Family Law Group in 2006, Harriet practiced matrimonial law with The King Law Offices and with Schoenberg & Associates in Burlington. She was a partner with her husband in the firm of King and King, Attorneys at Law, in Pittsburgh, Pa., where she concentrated in the areas of family and juvenile law and was also an advocate through the Juvenile Law Project. Harriet previously was associated with two Philadelphia firms, litigating in the areas of toxic torts and family law.
After moving to Vermont in 2000, she was a deputy state's attorney in Washington County where she prosecuted domestic violence/sexual assault cases, as well as violations of abuse prevention orders.
Harriet was also appointed to and served on the Vermont Family Violence Committee and presented at trainings concerning sex assaults.
Community Involvement
Before becoming an attorney, Harriet taught English in West Africa; first in the Peace Corps and later on a Fulbright fellowship. She enjoys spending time with her family, reading and gardening.
