Practice Focus


Jim Walker is a labor consultant for Downs Rachlin Martin Labor Consultants L.L.C. in New Jersey. In this capacity, he focuses on multi-employer collective bargaining and contract administration; national, regional and local bargaining; and labor contract negotiation, arbitration and grievances.

Prior to joining DRM Labor Consultants, Jim served as Executive Director for the National Elevator Industry, Inc. for more than twelve years. He advised and counseled employers, from CEO to field superintendent, on matters related to contract administration, government regulation and labor law. He established and implemented labor policies and procedures for local issue bargaining, contract administration, uniform disciplinary process and grievance resolution.

Professional Activities


Jim has served as a trustee and is currently chairman of a $3.5 billion national pension fund. He has served as a trustee and is currently chairman of a nationwide health plan covering 80,000 lives. He established and currently serves as co-chairman of one of the first multi-employer 401(k) plans.

From 1975 to 1989, Jim served as Labor Relations Manager for the National Elevator Industry, Inc. In that position he functioned as intermediary between employers and union representatives to resolve issues before grievances were filed, represented employers at grievance hearings and assisted in the preparation of material for impartial arbitration. He also created and maintained a database related to labor grievances and resolved employee grievances in accordance with the appropriate collective bargaining agreement.
