Practice Focus


Ben King represents clients in all areas of matrimonial and family law, handling all aspects of custody, visitation, paternity, spousal maintenance and child support issues at both the trial and appellate level. He applies solid, practical experience in the analysis of complex tax and business valuation issues and strong negotiation skills to the development of premarital, postnuptial and marital settlement agreements. Ben utilizes both the collaborative law and mediation approach in his practice.

Professional Activities


Before joining DRM Schoenberg Family Law Group, Ben practiced family law with The King Law Offices and with Schoenberg & Associates in Burlington. A former deputy state's attorney in Caledonia, Essex and Orleans counties in Vermont, he prosecuted domestic violence and sexual assault cases. From 1992 to 2000, Ben was a partner with his wife, Harriet, in the firm of King and King, Attorneys at Law, in Pittsburgh, Pa., where he concentrated his practice in the areas of family/juvenile law, criminal defense and civil litigation. He began his legal career as a law clerk to Justice Stephen A. Zappala, the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania. He has also served as both a child and a parent advocate through the Allegheny County Bar Association.

Ben is a member of the Chittenden County Collaborative Law Committee.

Community Involvement


Active in community affairs, Ben serves on the board of directors for the Boys and Girls Club of Burlington, chairing the board’s operations committee. He formerly served on a number of boards and committees including National Guard Association of Vermont, Alternative Program Associates (Pittsburgh, Pa.), The Epilepsy Foundation of America-Allegheny Plateau Chapter (Pittsburgh, Pa.), Housing for East Liberty People (Pittsburgh, Pa.) and the Lighthouse, Inc. (Pittsburgh, Pa.)

Ben is an owner of the 2007 American Basketball Association champions, the Vermont Frost Heaves, and serves on the team’s executive committee. When not engaged in legal matters, he enjoys spending time with his family, gardening, boating, hiking and snowshoeing.
